FATAL CRASH INVESTIGATION

On March 18, 2020 at approximately 12:40 PM Darke County Deputies along with Ansonia Rescue, Ansonia Fire, Rossburg Fire and Careflight were dispatched to the intersection of St. Rt. 49 North and Washington Road in reference to a serious injury accident involving a semi tractor/trailer vs. motor vehicle.

Preliminary investigation revealed a white 2011 Freightliner tractor/trailer driven by, Andrei Mihaescu 28 of Van Buren Township, Michigan was traveling westbound on Washington Road approaching the intersection of St. Rt. 49 North. Mihaescu failed to stop at the posted stop sign traveling into the intersection striking a gray 2014 Dodge Journey driven by, Karla K. Greer, 55 of Rossburg, Ohio. Both vehicles traveled off the southwest corner of the intersection where they came to rest in the ditch.

Mihaescu was treated and released at the scene of the accident by Ansonia Rescue. Karla K. Greer succumb to her injuries at the scene of the accident and was pronounced deceased.

Darke County's Accident Reconstructon Team was called to the scene for further investigation. Darke Counties Coroner Investigator and Ohio State Patrols Motor Vehicle Enforcement Officer was also called to the accident scene. Careflight could not fly due to weather conditions.

Andrei Mihaescu was taken into custody and charged with Vehicular Manslaughter and Failure to stop at a clearly posted stop sign. Mihaescu was transported to the Darke County Sheriff's Office and released to the jail.

This marks Darke County's second fatal accident of 2020.
