CRASH INVESTIGATION

On March 5, 2022 at approximately 7:12 AM Darke County Deputies were dispatched to 370 State Route 571 in reference to an accident with a vehicle possibly in a pond. Union City P.D. also responded to the scene. Through investigation it was discovered a vehicle had left the roadway and entered the pond and the driver was no accounted for. Responding units were unable to see the vehicle, because it was submerged in the water. Union City Fire, Union City Rescue. Piqua Fire Department Dive Team, and the Wright Patterson Air Force Base Dive team responded to the scene.


The Piqua Fire Department Dive Team and Wright Patterson Air Force Base Dive team dove into the pond and located the vehicle. The dive teams assisted with the recovery of the vehicle and no one was located inside.


Further investigation revealed a gray 2004 Nissan Titan driven by Steven Glunt ,30, of Union City was traveling Southeast on State Route 571 in the 300 block. Mr. Glunt failed to negotiate a curve and traveled off the left side of the roadway and coming to rest in a pond. Mr. Glunt left the scene without reporting the accident. Mr. Glunt was not injured during the accident.


Mr. Glunt was cited for Leaving the scene of an accident, Driving under suspension, and Failure to control a motor vehicle.


This accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff's Office.
